That is strange to me, because I have read from many places that it shouldn't give you reflux.

However if I mix protein powder in to the oatmeal, it doesn''t give me reflux.

Why does this happen? Anyone have similar issue?

Oatmeal gives me reflux as well. This always puzzled me as it seemed like it shouldn’t

Yep, I have this as well. Every time I eat plain carbs it feels like I haven't eaten anything at all but my stomach goes on overdrive. It's even worse with the 'breakfast recipes' that add fruit and sugars to the oatmeal - it's all carbs. You need some protein and fat to keep the food longer in the stomach and digest it more slowly.

Try mixing plain cottage cheese in the oatmeal, it has a lot of protein and a bit of fat, should keep you satiated for longer, especially in the morning. Then you can try adding bits of fruit etc.

It's a digestive issue. When the oatmeal is being digested in the intestine it produces gas. Hmm that’s super interesting. I wonder if it’s something to do with the macros. Protein slows the release of sugar into the bloodstream (leads to less insulin release) which is why it’s good to eat a combo of the two for satiety.

what about drizzling honey on it? honey is supposed to soothe. or what about a pH neutral water for the oatmeal? someone said alkaline water helps over regular tap.

See oatmeal is fine for me. But if I mix honey I'll get acid reflux. It's crazy how everyone's triggers are different

Do you have occasional reflux or have you suffered reflux for years? Are you ok medications?

I have suffered from reflux for around 10 years, I have lost alot of weight recently so I dont take any meds at the moment. It's really just some foods that trigger it nowadays.

Definitely strange as oatmeal is a safe food for me. Broccoli gives me acid reflux, can't touch it. Everyone has a weird trigger or two I say.

Oatmeal is awful for me too. However in the last year I found Better Oats and it doesn't bother me at all. https://www.betteroats.com/
